The Gospel

What is the Gospel?

What is the Gospel?

The gospel is the “good news” about God’s only begotten son, Jesus Christ, which includes his life, death, and resurrection, offering salvation and reconciliation with God. It emphasizes that through faith in Jesus, individuals can receive forgiveness for their sins and eternal life.

Who is this God, and Jesus?

The Bible teaches in the book of Genesis that God is the creator of all things. He made the world and everything in it, including you and me. God is triune, meaning three in one. He is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. 1 Timothy 2:5 tells us that “5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,” but more on that in a moment.

Why do we need salvation, or what is this “sin” thing?

Unfortunately, because we have sinned, we can’t be with God. Originally, when God created the world, he walked with man, Adam and Eve, in the garden, but when they rebelled against God, they sinned. They broke God’s command, which was not to eat of one of the trees of the garden, they could eat from any other tree, just not that one. The Bible teaches us in Romans that we are all sinners.

We might think that perhaps we could just do good things, or be really good, and maybe we can save ourselves, but the Bible shows us in Romans that our best work is as filthy rags, and in Ephesians we learn that we can’t save ourselves through doing good deeds. Our debt of sin has to be paid for some other way.

So how can I be saved?

John 3:16 tells us that God loves us, and that he sent his only begotten son, Jesus, to die in our place, to take on the punishment for our sins, even though Jesus didn’t do anything wrong. Because of this, if we confess our sins to God, and put our trust in Jesus’ work on the cross, believing in him who died for us, we too can be saved!
